Staksrud Has Joined New Jersey. Now Comes The Difficult Part
The New Jersey 5s were already tied for first when they acquired Federico Staksrud. That is what makes the trade so important. This is not a rescue operation. It is a contender trying to solve the one match-up that could keep it from the title.
Elsewhere, two projects are using the Team USA identity without an accepted authority deciding who owns it, while Vietnam’s first national youth qualifier offers a glimpse of what structure looks like when it begins at under-10 rather than at the edge of the senior game.
Staksrud gives New Jersey a route past St. Louis
New Jersey acquired Staksrud and Milan Rane from Orlando without giving up Noe Khlif or Will Howells. The 5s therefore kept mixed partnerships that have gone a combined 38-9 and added an answer to a men’s doubles pairing that stood at 14-12.
The best first move is the least disruptive one: leave both mixed teams alone, then pair Staksrud with whichever existing man best suits the opponent. That gives New Jersey a stronger route through the game St. Louis can target without breaking the combinations that carried it to first place. The deal has narrowed the title race, but the recent evidence still belongs to the Shock, who swept the 5s in the Mid-Season Tournament final.

The Pickleball World Cup is recruiting five American age-group teams through combines. A separate USA National Pickleball Team project linked to the professional game says details on events, partnerships and qualification are still to come.
One has named its competition. The other has access to much of America’s leading professional talent. Neither has established a universal right to select Team USA across the sport, and USA Pickleball, the organisation with the longest-standing domestic governing claim, is outside both projects. Until pickleball agrees its international chain of recognition, “official” needs a much better explanation.

Vietnam’s first 2026 national youth qualifier brought players from under-10 to under-18 together in Da Nang. Hải Phòng arrived with 36 athletes, while provincial federations, the People’s Public Security team and the national sports administration all appeared inside the same competition.
The event did not prove the quality of Vietnam’s future senior players. It revealed the outline of a pathway: defined age groups, provincial representation, singles and doubles competition, and older juniors learning to change tactics under pressure. The next test is continuity.
