Pickleball does not suffer from a shortage of results.
Every week brings another tournament, another medal table and another argument about rankings. Our website and daily newsletter will continue to report that world. It matters. But a monthly magazine should offer something different.
By the time an issue appears, most readers already know who won. The more interesting questions often remain unanswered. What kind of culture is forming around this game? Who is shaping it? Why are people leaving established careers to build pickleball businesses, creating clubs between hospital shifts or travelling across countries to spend a weekend playing with strangers?
Those are the stories this version of WPM wants to tell.
This issue moves through nursing homes, professional tours, Tokyo sports facilities, Welsh businesses, Australian festivals and a Dublin community hall. It meets people trying to protect the game’s eccentricity, people attempting to earn a living from it and people asking whether its institutions are ready for the responsibilities that come with growth.
There is room here for recovery, nutrition, films, bucket hats and bad tempers. There is also room for difficult questions about young players, professional power and who gets to govern an international sport. Together, those subjects reveal more about pickleball than another sequence of tournament reports ever could.

The game is still young enough for its identity to remain unsettled. Its customs are being invented in real time. Its communities are deciding what they value, while businesses and governing bodies compete to define what comes next.
That feels worth recording.
WPM will still recognise excellence on the court. We will simply look further around it: at the people in the stands, the organisers behind the barriers, the conversations after play and the choices that shape where the sport is going.
