The year 2026 has kicked off with a vibrant new energy for the sport of pickleball in Peru. Thanks to the powerful synergy between passionate local communities and the Peruvian Pickleball Federation, the sport has taken a massive leap forward in both organisation and popularity. Not only have practice spaces multiplied across public parks, but the competitive landscape has also reached exhilarating new heights with the introduction of attractive financial incentives.

Raising the Stakes: The 2026 Lima International Pickleball Tournament

The competitive bar was officially raised with the celebration of Lima’s first tournament to feature prize money. Organised in collaboration with the Municipality of San Miguel, this highly anticipated event united more than 80 players, bringing together eager competitors and fresh faces from various states across Peru.

The action took place at a brand-new complex dedicated to growing the sport, located at the Mercedes Indacochea Educational Institution in Barranco. The courts witnessed incredible matchups across a diverse range of ages and skill levels, proving that pickleball’s momentum in Peru is only accelerating. Competitors battled it out across several distinct divisions:

  • Junior: A seedbed for young talent between 10 and 14 years old.
  • Beginner and Intermediate: Age-divided brackets (+18, +45, and +60).
  • Intermediate Plus: Designed for players seeking a more intense challenge.
  • Open: The ultimate showcase of top-tier competitiveness.

For these athletes, standing on the podium wasn’t the only motivation. First-place winners took home not only the coveted gold medal but also cash prizes starting at $150. This introduction of prize money has set a new standard of professionalism that promises to keep growing in the coming months.

Transforming the Urban Landscape

Pickleball is physically changing the face of Lima’s public spaces. Areas that were once empty parking lots or traditional small-sided soccer (fulbito) courts are rapidly transforming into the city’s premier venues for intense matches. Driven by a daily passion to play, train, and improve, the community is constantly finding and creating new places to play in the capital.

The decentralisation of the sport is now a reality, with key zones taking the lead in this paddle “fever”. Top hotspots include:

  • La Molina (Parque Sevilla)
  • Santiago de Surco (El Pentagonito)
  • San Juan de Lurigancho

A Welcoming Community with a Bold Vision

Beyond the technical skills, the smashes, and the dinks, Peruvian pickleball has cultivated a unique atmosphere of camaraderie and vibrant energy. It has birthed a beautiful sporting community that welcomes newcomers with open arms while continuing to challenge seasoned veterans on every point.

Looking ahead, the Peruvian Pickleball Federation has taken a starring role in 2026, redoubling its efforts to formalise and expand these playing spaces. Their ultimate goal is crystal clear: to ensure that not a single district is left without a pickleball court. To achieve this, the Federation is pushing an ambitious agenda of free workshops and training programs designed for everyone—from the children who represent the future of the sport to adults and seniors looking to join the revolution.
