Not so long ago, Australia was viewed as an emerging nation in world pickleball. We had passionate players, growing clubs and an enthusiastic community, but the professional game largely belonged to North America.
Not anymore.
Today, Australian players are not simply turning up on the world’s biggest stages—they’re making headlines, climbing rankings, earning contracts and proving they belong among the very best.
From the APP Tour to Major League Pickleball and the PPA Tour, a new generation of Australian talent is making its presence felt, and they’re doing it with confidence, fearless ambition and an unmistakable Aussie fighting spirit.
Leading the charge is a quartet of players who are rewriting what Australian pickleball can achieve.
Sahra Dennehy – Australia’s New World Contender
If there is one Australian making the rest of the pickleball world sit up and take notice, it is Sahra Dennehy.
Now sitting at No. 8 in the latest PPA Women’s Singles rankings, Dennehy has firmly established herself among the elite players in the game. It’s a remarkable achievement considering the depth of women’s professional pickleball and the dominance of established American stars.
Her game has evolved dramatically over recent seasons. And as I have said previously on the World Pickleball Magazine podcast, I believe Sahra will beat Anna Lee Waters in the next 12 month in women’s singles.

This season she joins fellow Australian Joey Wild on the California Black Bears, giving Australia an exciting double act in Major League Pickleball.
Their partnership symbolises something much bigger than two talented athletes, it represents Australia’s arrival as a genuine force in professional pickleball.

Joey Wild has never been afraid of a challenge.
Whether representing Australia internationally or competing in America’s premier leagues, Wild has built a reputation as one of the country’s toughest competitors.
His selection by the California Black Bears is another significant milestone, not only for Joey personally, but for Australian pickleball as a whole.
Wild brings infectious energy, relentless competitiveness and of course his trademark bucket hat.
As Major League Pickleball continues to grow globally, having Australian players drafted into prominent franchises demonstrates the respect our athletes are earning on the international stage.
Dani-Elle Townsend – The Fearless Challenger
If confidence wins championships, Dani-Elle Townsend already has one foot on the podium.
Townsend has become one of the biggest talking points in Major League Pickleball after first making an impact with the Columbus Sliders before earning her move to powerhouse franchise Dallas Flash.
Her rise has been nothing short of spectacular.
But perhaps what has captured people’s imagination even more is her fearless attitude.
Townsend hasn’t hidden her ambition.
She wants to beat world No. 1 Anna Leigh Waters.
That’s not arrogance.
