Two PPA Tournaments, Paddle Brand Loyalty and Hong Kong Slam Seedings
Good morning, pickleballers.
The PPA Tour divides its attention between Australia and Virginia Beach this week, with two tournaments offering different ranking rewards and opportunities. Brisbane brings together an international field, while more open draws in Virginia could give several emerging contenders their chance.
Away from the courts, new consumer research reveals surprising differences between paddle brand loyalty and actual purchasing behaviour. We also examine the Hong Kong Slam seedings, where the world's leading professionals will face an increasingly ambitious group of Asian challengers.
Two continents, two very different draws
Brisbane's Australia Pickleball Cup offers 1,500 ranking points to champions and a strong international field, with Hunter Johnson looking to respond after his early Chicago exit. Virginia Beach offers 1,000 points, but the absence of several leading names changes the opportunities across the draws.
Roscoe Bellamy arrives as the top men's singles seed after his Chicago triumph, while Kate Fahey leads the women's singles field. We examine the competitive stakes, Australian challengers and what the divided calendar means for the ranking race.

Selkirk and JOOLA remain the most widely owned paddle brands among respondents to a new consumer study, but smaller manufacturers, including Six Zero and Honolulu, achieve some of the strongest customer recommendation scores.
Perhaps the most revealing finding concerns JOOLA: 52% of surveyed owners said they would buy again, while 72% of tracked owners stayed with the brand. Our analysis explores the gap between enthusiasm, purchasing intentions and actual behaviour, with a visual comparison of paddle ownership.
