The Lead
DUPR is not simply choosing a ball. It is extending its influence over how global amateur pickleball operates.

From 1 September, the JOOLA HC-40 will become mandatory across every DUPR-sanctioned competition, covering more than two million players in 183 countries and hundreds of events.

The official explanation is consistency. A common ball removes one more variable from a ratings system designed to compare performances across different tournaments and countries. The wider implication is influence: DUPR is moving beyond describing player ability and into defining the conditions under which organised amateur pickleball is played.

Today’s Argument

Standardisation can improve competitive integrity. It also gives the organisations setting those standards greater control over the sport’s future.

Asia

The Philippines is not merely growing pickleball. It is building every layer of the ecosystem.

More than 100 coaches are entering internationally recognised certification programmes while a ₱1 billion purpose-built centre prepares to bring 25 courts, a 2,000-seat arena and multiple PPA Tour Asia events to the country. Added to 46,400 registered players, 492 clubs and 86 shopping-mall courts, the result looks less like rapid growth and more like a deliberate national strategy.

Major League Pickleball

Dallas have won 11 straight. Orlando will decide how much that momentum is really worth.

The Flash left Chicago with a second consecutive Super Sunday Belt after overpowering Brooklyn in the DreamBreaker. Yet the final regular-season weekend will determine the top-four byes, opponent selection and the route every contender must take through the playoffs. Dallas may be the league’s hottest team. They still do not control the bracket.

The Bigger Picture

The sport’s next phase will be shaped by systems, not announcements

DUPR and JOOLA are standardising the conditions beneath organised competition. The Philippines is connecting coaches, facilities, commercial investment and professional events. Dallas are discovering that even extraordinary form must fit inside a playoff system designed to reward season-long position. Each story points towards the same reality: pickleball’s future will belong to the organisations and markets capable of building structures that endure after the headline has passed.
