The Report
India opens a route to the pros. Who actually gets through?
Good morning, pickleballers.
MLP has named eight teams for its first Nations Cup. Team USA brings the best-known roster to Dallas, but players from across Asia, Europe, Australia and Latin America will have three days to show what they can build together.
We examine the two groups and the difference between assembling a roster and forming a team. In Las Vegas, Anna Leigh Waters is two PPA Tour titles from 200 as Mesa's winners meet changed partnerships and renewed opposition.
Plus, Barcelona's professional singles begin today. The opening results will tell us more about the depth of PPA Tour Europe than another look at the entry list. The Report pauses over the weekend and returns on Monday.
Eight rosters are ready for Dallas. Which can become a team?
MLP's inaugural Nations Cup brings eight six-player teams to Dallas from 30 October to 1 November. The United States faces Canada, Europe West and Asia Domestic in Group A. Australia, Europe East, Latin America and Asia International meet in Group B.
Team USA has the most immediately recognisable collection of players. The harder question is whether regional squads drawn from several countries can find effective partnerships quickly enough to challenge it. Andrei Daescu and Nicolas Acevedo, opponents in the remarkable Arizona Open men's doubles final, will be on opposing sides in Group B.
Our analysis looks beyond the names to what this event can actually establish, and where MLP still needs to explain its regional selection rules.

Anna Leigh Waters leaves Arizona on 198 career PPA Tour titles. She and Anna Bright top the Las Vegas women's doubles draw, while Waters and Ben Johns head mixed doubles after their Mesa gold.
The draws also change the competition around them. Christian Alshon and Andrei Daescu return as the second seeds in men's doubles after saving seven championship points in Mesa, with Johns and Gabriel Tardio reunited at No. 1. Kate Fahey heads the published women's singles bracket.
The Rate Las Vegas Open starts on Monday. Our preview follows the partnerships and matchups that could determine whether Mesa's results carry into another week.

Professional singles are scheduled at the PPA Tour Europe P250 in Barcelona today, with doubles to follow over the weekend. The question raised by the opening draw remains: how deep is the field beyond its established international names?
Our existing preview maps the five professional draws and the players who could make the leading contenders work. We will follow verified results as play develops rather than assume the seedings have answered that question.
