The Report

Five tournaments. Two triple crowns. Three first-time champions.

All editions ·

Good morning, pickleballers.

Five tournaments across three continents have given us plenty to examine this morning. And the results are about considerably more than who took home the medals.

In Virginia Beach, three players became PPA champions for the first time. In Brisbane, visiting stars took four of the five titles, but an Australian delivered the home victory. In Louisville, the same men's doubles partnership won for the seventh consecutive APP tournament.

Meanwhile, Rome produced two triple crowns and Barcelona settled Spain's season-long circuit championships. Here's what matters from an extraordinary weekend.

The Lead · PPA Virginia Beach

Three new champions, and a comeback from 8-2 down

Kate Fahey and Eric Oncins were trailing Catherine Parenteau and Riley Newman 8-2 in the deciding game of the mixed doubles final. They won nine of the next ten points to take the title, 11-13, 11-4, 11-9. Fahey then beat Helena Jansen Fink 11-1, 11-9 in women's singles to complete her first PPA double-gold weekend.

But the bigger story was opportunity taken. Sofia Sewing won her first PPA title with Parenteau, while Elliott Schupp and Jaume Martinez Vich claimed maiden gold medals in men's doubles. Martinez Vich had waited eleven championship final appearances for that moment. John Lucian Goins won men's singles without dropping a game throughout the tournament.

Why it matters: With several leading players absent, Virginia Beach offered an unusual opening for the chasing pack. Three new champions emerged. The next test is whether they can repeat their success against the strongest available fields.

PPA Australia · Brisbane

The Americans won four titles. Australia won the one that counted at home.

Gabriel Tardio and Tyra Hurricane Black each completed double-gold weekends at the WALKER Australia Pickleball Cup. Tardio won men's doubles with Hayden Patriquin and mixed doubles with Black, recovering from a game down in both finals. Black also took women's doubles gold with Jorja Johnson. Hunter Johnson won men's singles after leading Christian Alshon 7-0, falling behind 8-7 and recovering to win the decider 11-8.

The home headline belonged to Andie Dikosavljevic. After surviving a 12-10 deciding game against fellow Australian Sahra Dennehy in the semifinals, she defeated Judit Castillo 11-6, 11-6 for women's singles gold. Danni-Elle Townsend also reached the women's doubles final alongside Parris Todd.

Why it matters: Brisbane showed the strength of the visiting professionals, but it also supplied concrete Australian results worth following. Dikosavljevic's championship, Townsend's final and Dennehy's semifinal offer a more useful picture than a simple count of American victories.

APP Louisville · The Winning Streak

Seven straight. But Munro and Livornese nearly lost the first game.

Jack Munro and Richard Livornese Jr. have now won seven consecutive APP men's doubles titles. Their latest victory was far from inevitable: Zack Marceau and Aidan Schenk held multiple game points in the Louisville final before the champions escaped 12-10 and raced through the second 11-2.

Munro added mixed doubles gold with Roos van Reek. Domenika Turkovic won her second consecutive women's singles championship, defeating Katerina Stewart, who has helped her develop her game. Bobbi Oshiro finally secured her first gold of 2026 alongside Stewart in women's doubles, while Ronan Camron claimed men's singles.

Why it matters: The seven-title streak is impressive, but Louisville revealed something more telling. Munro and Livornese were genuinely tested, survived their opponents' best chances and still finished comfortably. They remain the APP partnership everyone is trying to beat.

Europe · Rome Open

Two triple crowns, one 15-0 final and four medals for Tampieri

Louis Laville and Katherine Serrano each won three gold medals at the seventh Rome Open. The pair combined to win mixed doubles, while Laville took men's singles and partnered Ben Cawston to defeat Alberto Seccia and Georgi Nikolov 15-0 in the men's doubles final.

Serrano also won women's singles and joined Rosalba Cucci for women's doubles gold. Paola Tampieri arguably matched the headline performers for consistency, collecting four medals across the open and 50+ divisions: two senior golds and two open silvers.

Why it matters: Laville's success continued an October in which he reached 100 career gold medals. Rome also showed the competitive significance of age-group pickleball, with Tampieri reaching open finals while winning in the 50+ categories.

Spain · Pickle Pro Tour

Barcelona crowns the season's champions. Madrid is next.

Ignasi de Rueda and Sabrina Méndez finished the 2026 Spanish Pickle Pro Tour as double circuit champions. De Rueda led men's singles and doubles, while Méndez topped women's singles and shared the women's doubles championship with María Costantino.

At the Barcelona Open itself, Bálint Bakó won men's singles and doubles gold, while Méndez completed her own two-title weekend. The season now moves towards December's Madrid Master Final, with the organisers planning a larger 15-competition circuit in 2027.

Why it matters: Spain is developing a championship system that distinguishes tournament winners, season-long circuit champions and national honours. The proposed expansion will test whether that structure can support a larger, sustainable competition calendar.
