The Report
Could 50 players leave the PPA contract system?
Morning.
The Tour Wars gave professional pickleball players unusual bargaining power. The next contract cycle may show how much of that market was sustainable.
Ryan Fu expects dozens of players to leave the PPA contract system. Inside private clubs, meanwhile, the sport’s first compensation report shows that its highest earners are increasingly paid according to the revenue they produce.
Ryan Fu believes reduced guarantees and stronger international alternatives could produce the largest redistribution of established professional talent since the Tour Wars.
His estimate includes two very different groups: players the PPA may no longer wish to retain and those who may decide that smaller guarantees no longer justify exclusivity.
That distinction matters. This would not necessarily be a player rebellion. It would be a market correction after rival tours spent heavily to control the same talent.

The first compensation report for dedicated pickleball and padel facilities says a head coach with a packed teaching calendar can earn between $130,000 and $200,000.
The crucial detail is how. Lesson revenue, clinics and paid programming drive the largest packages. The coach reaching $200,000 is effectively running a small business inside the club, with income tied to whether players keep booking.

Three unbeaten teams, but Saturday sets the price
Dallas, Columbus and SoCal emerged unbeaten from Day Two in San Diego. None has yet secured the most valuable position in its group.
Group winners will play for 25 points on Sunday, with 18 guaranteed even in defeat. Finish second and the maximum drops to 15. For California, Utah and Florida, the danger is leaving with one point or none.
The July issue goes beyond the daily cycle, with Zoey Weil, Connor Garnett, Billy Cooke and stories from across the global game.
