The Lead
The magazine has changed. Welcome to WPM.

The August edition of World Pickleball Magazine is out today, but this is more than another monthly issue.

From this month, the magazine becomes WPM. Our daily website and the World Pickleball Report will continue to follow the news, tournaments, results and decisions shaping the sport. The monthly magazine now has a different job: to get closer to the people, culture, behaviour, ideas and strange little details that make pickleball worth caring about in the first place.

Issue #19 is the first expression of that idea. It travels from a Dublin sports hall to Puerto Rico, from the pressure between points to the missing rung in player development, and into Tokyo with the people trying to build something that does not yet fully exist.

Inside WPM

Three stories that explain what the new magazine is trying to be

The Three Hours Between Shifts

In a Dublin sports hall, Filipino nurses, healthcare assistants, retirees and their families have created somewhere that belongs to them. Some travel across counties for three hours of pickleball. The game matters, but so does the room around it.

What It Means to Be Clean

Luis Rodriguez disappeared from much of his own life before pickleball helped pull him back into it. Pico Clean grew from that recovery, but the word “clean” came to mean something larger: honest calls, legal paddles, decent behaviour and the kind of game he wants to help protect.

Talent Isn't the Problem. The Missing Rung Is.

Lee Whitwell looks beyond the excitement around teenage prodigies and asks the harder question. If pickleball keeps finding talented young players, who is responsible for building the coaching and development structure that carries them from promise to adulthood?

World Pickleball Studio: giving more tournaments a proper broadcast home

There is another launch today.

World Pickleball Studio has been built around a simple problem. There are tournaments, leagues and matches happening all over the world that deserve to be watched properly, but many organisers do not have the budget, production team or broadcast infrastructure to make that happen.

The Studio is our attempt to close that gap. It is designed to give events a professional digital home, bring multiple tournaments together for viewers, create better commercial opportunities around broadcasts and, over time, build an archive of matches that would otherwise disappear when the weekend ends.

For organisers, brands and partners, the model can scale from a platform for an existing stream through to a more complete production partnership. For players and supporters, the ambition is simpler: make more of the global game easier to find and better to watch.

The Bigger Picture

One tells the stories. One helps people see the game.

WPM and World Pickleball Studio are different projects, but the thinking behind them is connected. Pickleball is producing more people, places, matches and stories than ever. The job is no longer simply to say that they exist. It is to give the best of them the treatment they deserve, whether that means a deeply reported magazine story or a tournament finally reaching an audience beyond the people standing beside the court.
