Pickleball has outgrown its origin story.

What began in the Pacific Northwest is now played and built across every continent. The game is no longer defined by where it started—but by where it is growing.

Which raises a simple question.

Key Takeaways

  • The Pickleball Hall of Fame is expanding its recognition beyond the United States, acknowledging international contributors who shaped the sport globally.
  • Going global signals that pickleball’s history is no longer a single-country story — it belongs to the world.
  • The move raises questions about how the sport honours its past while building a truly international future.

Who gets recognised for building it?

Since 2017, the Pickleball Hall of Fame has stood as the sport’s highest honour. But until now, the story it reflected was largely North American.

That is beginning to change.

If you\u2019re following how the global game is shifting week by week, the World Pickleball Report breaks this down every Wednesday.

Through the introduction of international chapters, countries now have a pathway to document their histories, identify key contributors, and put forward candidates for global recognition.

There is still one Hall of Fame.
Standards remain centralised.
Prestige remains intact.

What changes is access.

👉 For the first time, the global game has a route into its highest honour.

This shift is not symbolic.

In many countries, pickleball has been built from scratch—by coaches, volunteers, and organisers creating something where nothing existed before.

Much of that early work remains undocumented.

And once it is lost, it cannot be recovered.

As Hall of Fame co-founder Seymour Rifkind puts it:

“This next step legitimizes those efforts on the global stage before they are lost.”

Pickleball is now a global sport.

The Hall of Fame is simply catching up to that reality.
