Frostbite and Fever: Illness and Upsets Define PPA Indoor National Championships
Lakeville, United States – The 2026 PPA Indoor National Championships concluded this week in Minnesota, where sub-zero temperatures outside were matched by a feverish intensity inside the Life Time facility. In a tournament marred by widespread illness and freezing conditions that reached -20 degrees, resilience became the ultimate skill set as new champions emerged and established stars fought through physical adversity.
In a stunning turn of events, Hunter Johnson reclaimed the top spot in Men’s Singles. Johnson, the top seed, defeated Christopher Haworth 11-6, 11-0 in the final. The victory was particularly miraculous given that Johnson had retired due to injury just a week prior at The Masters, while Haworth appeared to fade in the final, potentially a victim of the illness circulating among the pros. On the women’s side, Parris Todd captured gold in singles over Lea Jansen but dropped a bombshell during her post-match interview, hinting that this might be one of her final singles tournaments as she shifts focus to doubles.
The most electric storyline belonged to Christian Alshon, who played like a “man possessed” to secure two historic gold medals,. In Mixed Doubles, Alshon and Hurricane Tyra Black upset the top-seeded pair of Anna Bright and Hayden Patriquin to win their first-ever gold together,. Alshon then paired with Patriquin in Men’s Doubles to defeat the gritty but ailing team of Andrei Daescu and Gabe Tardio in a five-game epic, 11-1, 14-12, 10-12, 11-8, 12-10,. Meanwhile, the unstoppable duo of Anna Leigh Waters and Anna Bright continued their reign of terror in Women’s Doubles, cruising to their 16th title together with a commanding performance that saw them surrender only a handful of points throughout the early rounds.
Chennai Champions: Boopathy and Anish Seize Crown at PRC Battleground 2026
Chennai, India – The courts of Prasad’s Recreational Centre were ablaze with competitive fire this week as the PRC Battleground 2026 concluded its four-day spectacle. Sanctioned by the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), the tournament underscored the sport’s rapid rise in the region, drawing 126 registered players to compete for top honours across multiple categories.
The marquee event, the Men’s Doubles Pro final, saw a masterclass in composure from Boopathy Sakthivel and Anish Froilan R. The duo dismantled the team of Abhishek and Vishwajit in straight sets, 11-6, 11-7, executing an error-free display that left their opponents scrambling for answers. Boopathy also found success in the Mixed Doubles Advanced category, partnering with Chandni Murali to defeat Shilpa Ranjit and Vishnu Chittan 15-10, showcasing superior execution during critical rallies.
In individual action, Harirajan dominated the Men’s Singles Pro division, claiming the title with a decisive straight-games victory over Nikhil Nandha. However, the most heart-pounding action occurred in the Men’s Singles Advanced final. In a match that swung wildly point-for-point, Rahul Ram managed to edge out Vignesh with a razor-thin 15-14 victory, holding his nerve in the dying moments to secure the win. The tournament also highlighted the depth of local talent, with Abhishek and Surya triumphing in the Open Men’s Doubles and Joshika Premkumar and Harini dominating the Women’s Doubles final.
From Reality TV to Pro Tour: ‘Paddle Battle’ Winners Earn Golden Ticket to APP
Scottsdale, United States – The worlds of reality television and professional sports are colliding in a groundbreaking partnership that promises to turn on-screen drama into on-court glory. Pickleball Kingdom, the creators of the reality competition series “Paddle Battle,” announced a strategic alliance with the Association of Pickleball Players (APP) Tour this week, offering a life-changing prize for the show’s victors.
Under the new agreement, the winners of “Paddle Battle,” which premiered on YouTube on January 14, 2026, will bypass the traditional qualifiers and secure a spot to compete as professionals on the APP Tour starting in March 2026. The show documents the intense pressure and perseverance required to succeed in elite pickleball, and this partnership provides the ultimate payoff: a direct pathway to the sport’s premier stage.
“These athletes have earned the opportunity to take the next step,” said Ace Rodrigues, Founder and CEO of Pickleball Kingdom. APP Founder Ken Herrmann echoed the sentiment, noting that the competitive spirit of the show embodies what the tour stands for. By bridging the gap between entertainment and professional competition, the collaboration aims to expand the sport’s visibility and offer fans a compelling narrative that follows athletes from their living rooms to the professional podium.

By offering standardized prize money and a clear professional pathway, TOPSERIES seeks to turn the EMEA region’s organic growth into a sustainable, elite ecosystem for the world’s fastest-growing sport.
