The selection of Pickleplex underscores a commitment to providing a “first-class player experience”. Co-founder and CEO Steven Fry stated that his team is already working with national officials to ensure the venue meets the needs of players travelling from every province. The championship will feature the standard array of singles, doubles, and mixed categories, but the spotlight will shine brightest on the Provincial Team Competition (PTC).

In 2026, the PTC will serve a dual purpose. Beyond regional pride, it has been designated as a primary evaluation criterion for the National Development Program. This move is intended to formalize the talent pipeline, helping Pickleball Canada identify athletes capable of representing the nation on the international stage,. With Pickleball Canada recently surpassing 90,000 members, the event is expected to draw a massive crowd of spectators and volunteers, further solidifying Toronto as a central hub for the sport’s northern evolution.

The World Pickleball Verdict

Canada is taking a highly structured approach to elite growth. By linking the National Championships directly to the National Development Program, they are moving away from purely recreational tournaments toward an “Olympic-style” federation model. Choosing a 21-court indoor venue like Pickleplex ensures that the unpredictable Canadian weather won’t interfere with what is now a critical week for professional scouting and national ranking.
