What’s the Score?
PickleballSpot has launched a groundbreaking initiative to crown the “Italy Best Player 2025,” blending hard data with community engagement. The award aims to recognise the male and female players who have defined the sport’s explosive year in Italy, moving from an objective statistical ranking to a fan-driven knockout tournament.
Hit it deeper!
The selection process for the award was rigorously data-driven. To even qualify for the “Top 8,” players were required to have competed in the final stages of Italy’s premier FITP circuits, including the Road to Roma and the Team Championship. PickleballSpot developed a composite score formula: Total Score = FITP Ranking + Average DUPR. This methodology ensured that the finalists were not just popular, but objectively the best performers on the court.
The rankings revealed a tight race at the top. On the men’s side, Alberto Seccia secured the #1 seed with a score of 10.271, narrowly edging out Andrea Bosi (10.140). The women’s field was led by Francesca Rumi (10.273), with Paola Tampieri following in second.
However, the “Best Player” title won’t be decided by a committee. Starting December 30, the competition shifted to Instagram, where the Top 8 face off in a bracket-style elimination voted on by the public. From the quarterfinals to the final, the “pitch has spoken,” and now the community will decide the ultimate winners, who will receive exclusive “Best Player 2025” gear.
The World Pickleball Verdict
This hybrid award format represents a smart evolution in how pickleball communities engage with their stars. By anchoring the qualification in objective stats (FITP and DUPR), PickleballSpot ensures the award maintains competitive integrity. However, by handing the final decision to the fans via social media, they are driving engagement and narrative-building that statistics alone cannot achieve.
For Italian pickleball, which saw a “clear leap” in 2025 with more tournaments and competitive players, this award solidifies the identities of its top athletes. It transforms a list of names on a spreadsheet into a conversation piece for the entire community, celebrating the players who are driving the sport’s European expansion.
