The standout performance of Day 5 belonged to the Kolkata Kingz. In a league format where every set counts, the Kingz were merciless against the Nashik Ninjas, sweeping all four sets in regulation. Patrick Kawka set the tone with a decisive singles victory, which was immediately followed by dominant showings in women’s, mixed, and men’s doubles. The 4–0 result denied Nashik any foothold in the match and significantly boosted Kolkata’s standing.
Meanwhile, the Bengaluru Blazers relied on composure under pressure to defeat the Mumbai Chhatrapati Warriors. The tie began with a nail-biter in singles, where Emilia Schmidt edged out Ariana Rodriguez 25–23. Schmidt then maintained her hot streak, pairing with Sewing to crush the women’s doubles set 21–10. The Blazers sealed the tie in mixed doubles as Sewing and Phuc Huynh won 21–17. Although Mumbai salvaged a point in men’s doubles with a win by Stirling and Motiani, Bengaluru’s early dominance proved insurmountable.
The action was equally fierce, involving the Ahmedabad Olympians, who engaged in a gruelling five-set battle with the Madras Marinas. After Ronan Jack Camron won singles and the duo of Fudge and Bates took women’s doubles, Madras mounted a comeback to force a tiebreaker. However, Ahmedabad held their nerve, edging the tiebreaker 23–21 to win the match 3–2.
The Hyderabad Vikings enjoyed a far smoother day, dismantling the Coimbatore Super Smashers 4–1. Straight-game wins from Ryler Deheart in singles and the doubles pairings of Walczak–Policare, van Reek–Blanco, and Yu–Blanco ensured the Vikings finished the day with maximum momentum. In the Challenger League, competition remained tight, with the Hyderabad Vikings edging the Delhi Snipers 3–2 via a 23–21 tiebreaker, and the Jaipur Stallions defeating Madras 3–1.
The World Pickleball Verdict
Day 5 of the Global Sports Pickleball League highlighted a crucial truth in team pickleball: consistency across formats is king. The Kolkata Kingz demonstrated that a balanced roster capable of winning in singles, gender doubles, and mixed doubles is virtually unbeatable.
Conversely, the razor-thin margins seen in the Ahmedabad and Hyderabad Challenger matches—both decided by tiebreakers—remind us that resilience is just as valuable as raw skill. As the league phase nears its conclusion, teams like the Nashik Ninjas must find answers quickly, while squads like Bengaluru and Kolkata appear to be peaking at the perfect time. The depth displayed by the Blazers, winning despite a dropped men’s doubles set, suggests they are built for a deep playoff run.
