From GoFundMe to Global Stages: Malaysian Star Nursharneem Shamsuddin Chasing Pro Pickleball Dream
Malaysia – Nursharneem Shamsuddin, known as "Neem," a 26-year-old former tennis player from Malaysia, is making strides in professional pickleball. After discovering the sport casually in 2022, she decided to pursue it professionally by mid-2023 after graduating from King University.
Facing the significant costs of tournament fees, travel, coaching, and equipment, Neem launched a GoFundMe campaign to help fund her journey and gain experience and ranking points by competing in more tournaments. She started her first GoFundMe before the Dallas PPA World Championships in November 2024 and launched another for her 2025 season.
A notable moment for Neem was competing against former professional tennis player Genie Bouchard at a PPA event in North Carolina, which she described as an incredible experience. Her goals for 2025 include competing in higher-level events like the PPA Tour, APP, and Nationals, with her ultimate aim being the World Pickleball Championship in Dallas in November 2025. Neem is also planning a trip back to Malaysia in July to compete in the World Pickleball Championship in Selangor.
MLP Shakes Up 2025 Schedule: Salt Lake City Swaps Spots with Daytona Beach
UNITED STATES – May 9, 2025 – Major League Pickleball (MLP) has announced multiple schedule updates for its 2025 season, including a significant location swap. For the first time since 2023, MLP is set to return to Daytona Beach, FL.
The MLP event originally scheduled for Salt Lake City, Utah, from June 5-8, will now be played in Daytona Beach, FL, at Pictona. Importantly, there will not be an amateur event in Daytona Beach.
In a corresponding change, the MLP event originally scheduled for St. Petersburg, FL, from July 31-August 3, will now be played in Salt Lake City. Unlike Daytona Beach, there will be an amateur event held in Salt Lake City. These location changes were made because the St. Petersburg venue was not built in time to host an event this summer. The 2025 MLP season is set to continue with MLP Austin, scheduled for May 23-26 at Austin Pickle Ranch.
