Hit it deeper!

On July 3, 2025, Malaysia witnessed a pioneering event in the world of sports with the launch of the Solarvest Pickleball Cup 2025. This tournament is a landmark initiative by Solarvest, one of Malaysia’s prominent clean energy providers, extending their commitment to sustainability from energy solutions into community sports. What truly sets this event apart is its groundbreaking environmental pledge: it will be Malaysia’s first-ever pickleball tournament to be powered entirely by 100% renewable energy. The tournament is slated to run from August 2 to 3, 2025, at the dedicated pickleball facility, Picklefy, in Shah Alam.

Just two weeks following Solarvest’s initial announcement, the response from the public has been exceptionally enthusiastic, so much so that the organisers have had to open up new slots to accommodate the high turnout of eager players. This demonstrates the significant and growing demand for pickleball events in Malaysia. Specifically, Solarvest introduced an entirely new category—men’s singles—within the open division (for players with a DUPR rating of 3.8 and above). Additionally, new slots were added across all categories in the novice division (for players with DUPR ratings between 2.5 and 3.2), including men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. The tournament is designed to be inclusive, welcoming players from across Southeast Asia to compete in these various categories. Winners of the tournament will be vying for substantial prizes, including over RM35,000 in cash, professional-grade paddles, eco-friendly medals crafted by sustainability partner NatureLoop, limited edition Solarvest Pickleball Cup Puma jerseys, and other exciting gifts.

The commitment to clean energy is central to the tournament’s identity, earning it the designation “Solarvest Pickleball Cup 2025: The Clean Tournament”. Every megawatt of power supplied to the event will be certified by Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). This meticulous approach stands as a powerful testament to how athletic passion and environmental responsibility can be seamlessly united, setting a new standard for sports events. Jack Tan (陈麒介), Group Vice President, Global Sales, Assets & Marketing of Solarvest Holdings Berhad, articulated the company’s philosophy at the launch ceremony. He stated, “At Solarvest, we believe that clean energy is not just about infrastructure – it’s about how we live, work and play”. He emphasised that supporting pickleball reflects Solarvest’s broader belief in fostering vibrant, healthy communities while simultaneously driving sustainable progress. With an anticipated turnout of 480 players, the goal is to make it “one of the most energetic and eco-driven pickleball tournaments Malaysia has ever seen”. Tan further elaborated that by integrating sustainability into a dynamic and social sport like pickleball, they hope to “inspire meaningful conversations around climate action and more sustainable lifestyles,” marking an exciting new chapter for the company’s initiatives. The entry fees for the tournament are RM250 for Novice categories and RM300 for Intermediate & Open categories. Further information and registration details are available on Solarvest’s official website and social media channels.

The World Pickleball Verdict

The Solarvest Pickleball Cup 2025 is a groundbreaking event that goes beyond mere competition; it serves as a powerful symbol of how sports can champion environmental responsibility. By being the first fully renewable energy-powered pickleball tournament in Malaysia, it sets an important precedent for sustainable event management globally. The overwhelming response and the subsequent expansion of player slots not only highlight pickleball’s meteoric rise in popularity across Southeast Asia but also underscore a growing public appetite for events that align with broader environmental values. This tournament is a testament to the idea that passion for sport can seamlessly integrate with a commitment to a healthier planet, inspiring both athletes and communities to think more consciously about their environmental impact.
