Hit it deeper!

Scheduled for May 24 and 25, 2025, at REPPP in Mehrauli, South Delhi, the LawStrings Pickleball Premier League – Lawyer’s Edition represents a novel concept: a dedicated sports league for the legal community in India. Organised by LawStrings Management, the event is supported by Senior Advocate Sacchin Puri and is designed to deliberately merge the fields of law and sport.

The tournament will see eight franchise teams battling for supremacy. These teams are notably owned by well-known figures within the legal profession. The roster of team owners includes Senior Advocate Guru Krishna Kumar (Amicus Aces), Retired Justice Dr. S. Muralidhar (Pickle Pleaders), Senior Advocate Sonia Mathur (Smash Squad), Senior Advocate Vivek Sood (Sood’s Smashers), Senior Advocate Haripriya Padmanabhan (Net-workers), Senior Advocate Rupesh Kumar (Supreme Strikers), and Advocate Shrey Sharawat (Legal Pickle). Each team is structured to include a mix of experienced lawyers and newer legal minds, emphasising fun, fitness, and friendly rivalry.

The two-day event will feature competition across men’s doubles, mixed doubles, and recreational matches, played in a high-energy format over two evenings. Beyond the competition, the league is founded on deeper goals. According to LawStrings Management founder Shubham Malhotra, the initiative is "more than just a tournament". He emphasised its purpose in "community building, promoting wellness, and redefining how the legal industry connects outside the courtroom". Malhotra also highlighted the significant enthusiasm from the senior bar for the event and expressed excitement about the potential for this to become a seasonal league in the future.

Advocate Divyangna Malik, a member of the league’s management committee, echoed this sentiment, calling the initiative a "refreshing shift" in building camaraderie within the legal profession. She added that the league is not just about competition but also a "celebration of health, teamwork, and the incredible talent in our legal community".

This event is considered a significant step in bringing India's legal community together in a non-traditional setting, offering a blend of sport and networking. It also serves to underscore the rapidly growing popularity of pickleball in India, particularly within professional circles. LawStrings Management's plan to make this a regular event suggests a long-term vision for the league. If successful, it could potentially serve as a model for similar sports leagues targeting other professional groups.

The World Pickleball Verdict

The launch of the LawStrings Pickleball Premier League in India is a prime example of pickleball's adaptability and broad appeal, extending into specific professional communities. This innovative league demonstrates that pickleball is not just a sport for recreational play or elite competition, but also a powerful tool for networking, wellness, and community building within demanding professional environments.

The involvement of prominent legal figures as team owners lends considerable credibility and visibility to the league, potentially encouraging wider participation from the legal fraternity. The focus on bringing together lawyers across different generations and skill levels in a relaxed yet competitive setting is a key aspect of the league's community-building goal.

This initiative highlights the significant growth of pickleball in India and signals its potential beyond traditional sports clubs, finding enthusiastic adoption among professionals seeking active ways to connect outside of work. The plan to establish it as a seasonal league suggests a sustainable model that could indeed inspire similar leagues in other professional sectors, further solidifying pickleball's place as a social and athletic phenomenon.
