Bellamy, making his first Championship Sunday appearance, started the singles final strongly, taking an early 9-4 lead in the first game with precise backhand passing shots. However, Tardio demonstrated remarkable composure and skill, reeling off the final seven points of the game. He employed crafty kitchen play, expertly moving the taller Bellamy around the non-volley zone to find open spaces and secure an 11-9 first-game victory.
Guided by expert coaching from his doubles partners Ben Johns and Jessie Irvine, Tardio continued his strong play into the second game. He comfortably won the second game, 11-5, securing his second PPA singles title of his career and his second gold medal of the day in North Carolina.
Following his victory, the 19-year-old Tardio acknowledged the crucial support and guidance he received from Johns and Irvine. He stated that he was simply trying to listen to their advice and execute their strategies.
Top seed Federico Staksrud was awarded the bronze medal in men’s singles after No. 17 seed Zane Ford withdrew from their match due to a right ankle injury sustained in the semifinals.
