What’s the Score?
The Asian pickleball landscape shifted this weekend as Quang Duong, Vietnam’s top-ranked male player, officially signed a sponsorship agreement with domestic brand Wika Pickleball. The partnership marks a significant transition for the young athlete following his amicable departure from the startup Sypik Pickleball. Wika, a rapidly rising force in the Vietnamese sports equipment market, confirmed the deal via social media, framing the collaboration as the start of a “new burst of momentum” leading into the 2026 season.

This sponsorship deal is a strategic move that reinforces the “Go Local” trend within the Vietnamese sports industry. By aligning with Wika, Quang Duong is doubling down on his commitment to domestic innovation rather than signing with a Western legacy brand. Wika’s announcement was filled with ambitious rhetoric, stating that the partnership opens a “next chapter in their professional pickleball journey – where pioneering milestones are set to be unveiled”.
The collaboration is set to yield immediate commercial products. Wika has teased the upcoming launch of a signature collection titled “Wika QD”. According to the company, this line will be “fuelled by relentless movement on court and breakthrough technology debuting for the first time,” specifically engineered to complement Duong’s high-energy style of play. This follows Duong’s successful history of product collaboration; during his tenure with Sypik, he helped launch the “Avatar Collection,” a paddle series that gained traction in the market.
The split from his previous sponsor, Sypik, appears to have been handled with professionalism. Sypik publicly paid tribute to Duong—who is the top-ranked Asian male player on DUPR—calling their time together “an honour”. This paved the way for Wika to step in, a move they had hinted at through various teasers prior to the official confirmation.
Wika’s statement emphasised a broader vision beyond just selling paddles. They described the deal as a “strong commitment to sustainable development and a long-term partnership with Vietnamese pickleball,” signaling their intent to use Duong as the face of a “new generation of Vietnamese athletes ready to conquer the international stage”.
The World Pickleball Verdict
Quang Duong’s move to Wika is a clear indicator of the rising confidence within the Asian pickleball manufacturing sector. No longer content to merely manufacture for Western brands, Vietnamese companies are now aggressively sponsoring top-tier talent to build their own global identity. For Duong, the deal represents a calculated bet that a domestic giant can provide the technological and financial support needed to compete globally. If the “Wika QD” line succeeds, it could establish a new model where Asian star players drive the R&D and marketing of homegrown brands, challenging the dominance of North American equipment manufacturers in the rapidly expanding Eastern market.
