Manila, Philippines – The Philippines has officially thrown its hat in the ring to host the world’s most prestigious pickleball event, backing its bid with massive infrastructure promises and government support.

The Philippines has emerged as a front-runner to host the 2027 Global Pickleball Championship (GPC). Following the successful hosting of the Global Pickleball Federation (GPF) Congress and Annual Meeting in Manila, the Philippine Pickleball Federation (PPF) confirmed it is actively pitching for the event. The bid enjoys high-level institutional backing from both the Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Olympic Committee.

The cornerstone of the Philippine bid is “Helios,” a game-changing facility currently under development. If the bid is successful, the 2027 championships would be held at this new venue, which promises to set a new standard for the sport in Asia. Helios is designed as a multi-story indoor complex featuring 25 championship-ready courts and a 2,000-seat stadium. Slated for completion by 2027, it would be the first facility of its magnitude in the region.
Sherry Ann Cu, Tournament Chair of the PPF, highlighted the country’s strategic position in the sport. “The Philippines is very much in the heart of pickleball in the world,” Cu asserted, noting that the nation is a charter member of the international governing body. She pointed out that the Philippines is unique in Asia as the first nation whose pickleball federation is officially recognised by its National Olympic Committee, granting it a validated status that other nations are still chasing.
The recent GPF Congress served as a dress rehearsal for the country’s organisational capabilities, drawing delegates from 35 countries. The PPF views hosting the 2027 GPC not just as an end goal, but as part of a longer campaign to lobby for pickleball’s inclusion in the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

The Philippines’ bid for the 2027 GPC illustrates how infrastructure is becoming the primary currency in the race for global pickleball dominance.
